 | This was the first Holiday movie I remember seeing in the Theatre. This was back when I was just a lad, but it stuck and the impact has left many fond and sometimes eerie memories of my own Christmas Past.
Albert Finney is the best Mr Scrooge ever as far as I am concerned. The music has this haunting quality that chokes me up everytime I watch. I feel this is the most underrated version of this Yuletide perennial there is. This is a joy to have in any collection of musicals. No matter the season.
Young ones would love this but beware the ghosts!!! I remember ducking under the seats in the day. The Film industry doesnt make them like this any longer. Make it your holiday tradition with spiced wine and hot chocolate for the little ones. |

 | As the clock strikes one you definitely know what is going to happen in the movie of "Scrooge". This movie is a musical based on the book of The Christmas Carol. This story has something for everyone, from wonderful language to toys and even ghosts.
This movie takes place in London, England. This movie is a story of an old miser who has a cold heart and only cares about himself. This man, Scrooge, use to work with a man by the name of Marley. Marley was an old "miser" as well, and he also had a cold heart. On Christmas Eve, they day of Marley's death, Scrooge went to everybody in the town and asked for the money that they owned him back. Scrooge did this because he is obsessed with money.
When Scrooge was coming back from getting his money he saw Marley's face on the door knocker. Scrooge thought he was hallucinating. How could he see someone's face that is dead? As Scrooge entered the old house he heard rattling and loud clacking. He entered his bed chamber, and locked the doors. Soon after he lit the fire the doors unlocked and a ghost came in. It was the ghost of Marley. Scrooge was scared and thought he was hallucinating. He did not believe it was really a ghost. The ghost of Marley was all white and had bandages around his head, he had chains around his body, and it looked like he was in a lot of pain. As Marley talked to scrooge he talked of what a bad man Scrooge is, and he tried to warn him of what will happen if he didn't change. Marley told Scrooge that there was going to be three ghosts, a new ghost at every strike of one. The ghosts would be the ghost of the past, the ghost of the present, and the ghost of the future. The ghosts would all show him how is Christmas's were, are, and how they will be.
As Marley left, Scrooge, thought that this was not true. He sat in his bed and said "humbug." Soon enough, at the strike of one a ghost entered his room. It was the ghost of Christmas present. This ghost was a lady and had a very nice dress and hat. She told him he was the ghost of the Christmas past. She pulled out of bed and brought him back to his past. She showed him he past childhood, and his love life. Scrooge is angry at him self by the end of this visit and wish he could take things back, especially losing the love of his life.
Soon at the strike of one the ghost of Christmas present came, this ghost brought loads of food, which Scrooge loved. This ghost was jolly, happy, and loved life. He was very tall and whore a long green coat. The ghost of the present brought him to the house of Bob crachet. Bob Crachet is the man who now works with Scrooge. Bob Crachet is different from Scrooge in many ways. Bob Crachet has many children, a wife, and is a very loving man. The Crachets are not very rich at all. They are very poor, they especially need money because one of their sons, Tiny Tim, has to get a leg replacement or he will die. After seeing the crachet house the ghost brought scrooge to the house of scrooge's nephew. His nephew was having a party, that Scrooge was invited to. Scrooge tried talking to his nephew saying he was sorry, but scrooge's nephew could not hear him, to scrooge's nephew scrooge was invisible.
Again at the strike of one the ghost of Christmas present came. He was a tall dark ghost. And you could not see his face. Scrooge was startled by this ghost... Do you think this ghost and the other two taught Scrooge how to be a good person? Read the book to find out.
The differences between the book, a Christmas Carol and the movie, Scrooge:
Both the book, a Christmas Carol and the movie, Scrooge have the same story, characters, and plot. This makes them both a very enjoyable watch and read. While watching the movie many things stood out in my mind that are the same. The clearest fact was that they used half the writing from the book in the movie. I thought it gave the movie intelligence, by using the larger words.
After watching the movie I noticed not too many things that were different. The only things I noticed was that in the movie they spent more time on the crachet family. They showed the children and Tom Crachet before the second ghost had come. Another thing that was different was that the first ghost, the ghost of Christmas present, spent a lot of time on his past girlfriend. This was unlike the book, where they don't really pay attention to his past girlfriend.

 | I've seen several version of Dickens' tale of hope and redemption on stage and screen, and this is my favorite! Ignore the Amazon reviewer, who clearly needs a visit from the Ghost of Musicals Past to help clear up his/her thinking. The music is glorious, the songs are fun, the acting is superb. The final section, after Scrooge's night of ghostly visitors, is fabulous - music, dancing, singing, food, toys, happy people everywhere - exactly what Christmas should be! |

 | This movie has brought the Christmas spirit into my home for decades. I would love to play the soundtrack while stringing popcorn and cranberries for my freshly chopped tree before the pine needles hit the carpet. Does anyone have any info on when the soundtrack will be released? Signed, 'Old Potato' |
